10 Things you might not know about Twinsburg Food Service
1. All menus exceed Federal guidelines / Recommended Daily Allowances and are planned by a
Registered Dietitian (Mark Bindus, RD,LD).
2. Want to know exactly what your child is eating for lunch? When you sign up for a MyNutrikids account (see info below this section), you can now view lunch transactions to get a very detailed list of what your child is taking for lunch. 3. PEANUT OR TREENUT ALLERGIES??? Twinsburg Food Service does not use peanuts or peanut / treenut contaminated products as an ingredient in any of our district's kitchen. This procedure eliminates any possibility of cross contamination in our kitchens. The only peanut / treenut products that we offer are individually wrapped by the manufacturer and labeled appropriately.
4. Our pizza is homemade and made with whole wheat crust and low-fat
mozzarella cheese. Unlike most pizzeria pizzas which use mostly
white flour and higher fat mozzarella cheese, our pizza is a healthy,
lower fat entree option.

5. We use only whole wheat pasta, brown rice and white whole wheat buns and bread. This adds healthy fiber to our students daily diet.

6. We use only dark green, nutrient-rich romaine lettuce in all of our salads at all of our
schools...and low-fat and fat- free dressings.

7. Bissell and Wilcox offer at least one fresh fruit or vegetable option each day. Dodge, RBC, and THS offer at least two fresh fruit and and two fresh vegetable options each day. Fresh fruit options include sliced apples, orange wedges, sliced kiwi, petite bananas, strawberries w/ whipped topping and cantelope, grapes, and seedless watermelon (when in season).
8. All our snack and vending foods meet or exceed "The Alliance for a Healthier Generation's" standards. Providing no more than 35% of calories from fat, no more than 10% of calories from saturated fat, and no more than 35% sugar by volume. "Not health food, but definitely a healthy snack". 9. We limit our milk offerings to only 1% or fat-free milk. 1% and fat-free milk provide 2.5 grams and 5 grams of fat less, respectively, than 2% milk with still providing the same muscle building protein and bone strengthening calcium.
10. Our baked goods / desserts also meet the same strict requirements of our snack offerings. Our cookies are Pillsbury Classic cookies and are made in a facility 100% FREE of peanuts and tree nuts and are 100 calories or less each. Our rice krispy treats are homemade and are considerably lower in sugar then store bought rice krispy treats.
